Foreign things considered fashionable (knew of outside world) Households had to be registered according to grid plan. 2 major markets, west market was centre for foreign trade. Came to china split from mainstream of christianity. Caravans, dancers, musicians, animals like horses, grapes, wine, cotton, gold and silver.
