Constitutionalism = rights of the people should be included in the state e. g. individual rights. They set up republics and new legal system everywhere in. Nationalism of the early 19th century was different. First half of 19th century: conviction that the nation and the state should be equivalent. Bounds of state and governance should reflect a common nationality. Common language and common culture were linked with the nation and they should be the political bases of organization. Revolutions of 1830 lead to great change and that these ideas remain alive e. g. nationalism. It will continue to build up in europe over the next four decades. (1848 february-june) french revolution. Democratic banquets for liberal republics = political gatherings. Caused by evil of monarchy and conservatism. Reaction: in response, government shut down any revolutionary ideas e. g. newspapers and they deport thousands of people. Revolution came to vienna after a month of the french revolution breakout.
