January 23: 1644 - ming collapse, qing takeover. Not a manchu nor mongol nor tibetan. He becomes prominent ming army general and specializes in manchu problem. By end of 1650s, he ends up outside of the border into today"s burma (difficult to send military there cause it"s so hilly) 1662: he"s executed by qing: rebellion of the three feudatories. Some other ming ppl who went over the border are made feudatories/kings. They"re under pressure from the qing to give up their land: zheng clan. 1630s: zheng chenggong"s dad has built up military influence/control in coastal region. He runs a bunch of ships, boats, talks to portuguese in the area. Signs a treaty on his own with dutch people that kicked out the spanish.
