Modernity and progress is associated with science. Modernity may just simply be a way to turn the adaptation or the reshaping of past ideas to reshape present ideas and conditions. It"s that motion, that lack of static, that lack of permanence in modernity that sometimes allows us to change the ideas we don"t like. And it does involve compromise as well as innovation. Anybody who says modernity is a complete rejection of the past is probably a philosopher, pure and simple.
