Document Summary

It was only a few decades after he proposed this that evidence startedto support it. The postsynaptic side will respond the same way each time its stimulated. If we stimuale it in a certain manner, we can see a much larger change in the postsynaptic response. 2nd one is much larger than the first one. The stumuli are the same amplitude, but the 2nd one is larger. They used brain tissue from rabbits, and they sliced the hippocampus because its known that its an important area for learning/memory, and the hippocampus has one of the simplest structures. Unlike the rest of the cortex which has 6 layers of cells, the hippocampus seems to be evolutionarily older because it only has 3 layers which are distinct, and the circles represent the 3 cel bodies. The hosrhoe shaped layer is called the dentate gyrus and they send their axons which make lots of synapses onto the ca3 layer of the hippocampus.
