Document Summary
These fish descended from an anscenter that could see. Over many years they got mutations that made them blind. When they crossed frish from the 1st cave tgether, all the f1 were blind because the 2 parents carried mutations in the same gene. When cav1 and 2 were crossed, the f1 can now see. The same happened for cave 1 and 3. Cave 1, 2 and 3 fish had mutations in different genes, but all these genes played roles in eye development. These 3 fish converged upon the same outward appearance, but they used different genes to do this. The deficiencies in 1 lineage were compensated for in another lineage. The phenotypes of the mutants would be the same. The wild type allele coplements the mutant allele. They are all mutant allales of the same gene. At the phenotypic level, the individual appears homozygpus. We want to isolate genes that play a role in tomatoe colour.
