Document Summary

Pipettes: the easiest way to measure and transfer liquids, sizes range from 1ml to 100ml, we use 1ml and 10ml plastic pipettes (guns) Micropipettors: to transfer smaller volumes between 1-1000ul. Aseptic (sterile) techniques in pipetting: keep tips from touching everything (bench top, tissue box, outside of cell culture dish, finger) Accuracy vs precision: accuracy the ability of a measuring instrument to give responses to a true value. If pipette is set to dispense 100ul but delivers 99ul across repeated trials, accuracy of that particular dispense is off (or pipette is inaccurate by -1ul) To achieve best accuracy, use high quality pipettes that are professionally maintained and calibrated and used with the recommended quality matched tips: precision the ability of the instrument to provide repeated, similar responses (measurements) Often referred to as repeatability and/or reproducibility.
