Document Summary
Operational- variables/measures (very specific= explains how we do it) Explains how theory can lead to operational: theories in research. As attempts to determine, reality, truth, theories are: Theories are efforts to describe or explain the essence of nature of thing: things to be described/explained through research: When (at any time, or in certain corcumstances/under particular conditions) Whether (or not, if): concepts and variables. Ideas, issues, characteristics of an individual, a group or a disease/condition. Basically, a concept is the particular theoretical idea that any research attempts to address: variables versus constants. Any factor that can have different, measurable values is a variable. Claims about the causes and effects of actions and relationships. Gender, age, race/ethnicity, and country of residence are acceptable demographic variables because they are vary among individuals. More examples: body temperature, number of cancer cells, level of depression, degree of sepsis.
