Document Summary
A film"s stylistic system is defined by the patterned use of medium-specific elements. Think film form as 4 categories: mise-en-scene: include nearly everything appear in the film, cinematography: all tech. factors determine how camera renders. Lens, static: editing: select material for inclusion and put them together, sound: not a final stage, because it has to be produced, recorded and mixed. Staging (movement & performance) e. g. distance to actors. On location/ studio set e. g. an american in paris. Film is on location, introducing the place (stage set). Why choose studio set: environment highly controlled, actors can perform in a precise way. Camera can move freely as it needs to. Shot on the set but appears to be on location. Direction: frontal lighting, side lighting, back lighting, under lighting, top lighting (from above) Source: diegetic sources: not directly appear in frame, but contribute to overall effect, non-diegetic sources.
