Document Summary
Ire430 lecture 1: introduction - discussion of a legal case. The employment relationship has three distinct legal regimes. Courts preside over, create a set of precedents/rules of interpretation of common law relationships. Harm to one another (torts - one party harms another party either directly or indirectly and causes damages) Rules that judges have developed over the years when interpreting those contracts. Aka statutory law, government creates a set of rules that they can preside over and determine whether they have been breached. E. g. , employment standards, health and safety law, human rights code. Taxation, zoning of location where business will go, marriages, divorces, etc all rules created by politicians. Codified in a way that"s just a set of rules and clearly know what those rules are. The system of laws that govern employment consists of three distinct, yet overlapping, regimes. The cornerstone of the common law regime is the employment contract.
