Born in germany into a family of musicians. Went to vienna in his early years to learn and compose. Aristocrats didn"t want him to leave so they offered him a lifetime salary so he wouldn"t leave. Many of his pieces didn"t receive an opus number. After his death, most composers were put into beethoven"s shadow. There is much controversy and criticism in his works. He put a lot of meaning and effort into his work. His music seem to speak to both political struggles and his own personal turmoil - No. 3 about the french revolution and no. 5 about his own turmoil. Pitch (frequency): refers to how often particles of medium vibrate when a sound passes through it: measured in cycles per second hz. Dynamics (amplitude): the energy contained in the sound wave, the loudness/softness of the note. Timbre/overtones: what it makes it sound that way. One of the frequency components of a sounds other than that of lowest frequency.
