Theres 1 species of dugong left in the world, 3 species of manatee left. In japan the japanese river otter has supposedly gone extinct, but they see them periodically. We do(cid:374)"t (cid:272)o(cid:374)sider the fu(cid:374)(cid:272)tio(cid:374) of the appe(cid:374)dage (cid:449)he(cid:374) (cid:449)e (cid:272)lassify it as a spei(cid:272)eis. These seals do have a little flap of skin forming the ear. Manatees have big flexible lips, its like the nose of an elephant. Their lips grab the plants and rip them out. The dugong acts like a vacuum cleaner sucking up the food from the bottom. The polar bear has a skin flap on the ear. Mari(cid:374)e (cid:373)a(cid:373)(cid:373)als do(cid:374)"t have gills, marine mammals have lungs. Its not a marine mammal because it lays eggs, it has feathers. Limbs are visually abscent in animals like whales and dolphins, but the bones are still there. When these mammals dive deep, their lungs collapse. Blubber is fat but there is special characteristics that makes it different from fat.
