POL101Y1 Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: Katyn Massacre, Holodomor, Final Solution
Document Summary
After the initial invasion, the army was followed by 5 special ops death squads who would begin murdering civilians (began with roman catholic clergy, jews, polish intellectuals and nationalists) These death squads would execute people by shooting at the base of the skull into mass graves, but the most efficient way was gas chambers. Holocaust began in 1939 after the polish invasion, and in the ussr in 1941 after invasion (the final solution wasn"t even conceived until 1941 and wasn"t implemented until 1942, however) Gas chambers were tested and expanded (initially used on mentally handicapped), and the final solution was specifically the deportation of jews in the ghettos to the gas chambers in extermination camps (mostly in poland) There is sectarian violence and mob violence, however; the only time a large-scale extermination can occur is with the backing of the state (holocaust, holodomor, great leap forward, etc. )
