Document Summary
All these are sources of beliefs, worldviews by which we live. Children must learn conventions like: language, manners (in order to get on with life, the danger is, we often live our conventions without thinking. That makes everything simple: the danger is that we live out our entire lives as conformists, the opinions we live by wont be grounded by anything othe(cid:396) tha(cid:374) (cid:449)hat (cid:449)e"(cid:448)e i(cid:374)he(cid:396)ited, (cid:449)hat (cid:449)e"(cid:448)e hea(cid:396)d. Like the prisoners in the cave, we might dogmatically resist enlightenment. When we observe that, in the image, puppeteers are also in the cave, they live the life knowing that reproducing convention is the important goal. Very satisfying to instruct others in convention, even to tweak conventions. On the other hand, very hard to compel others into a reality that is unrecognizable. This is wht plato defines as education. Gradual appreciation of natural order lying beyond convention.
