Liberalism:
Its very explicit how it thinks through things
This case is strange because a lot is being done in order to support religious groups
We live in a diverse society
Liberalism talks about it
Things that liberalism invokews :
Hobbes people kill each other for it, its an anarchy
Locke anarchy but people cant necessarily kill each other
Its an abstraction, a way of imagining a starting point
We want to find a way of governing
What limits are we talking about?
There needs to be a limit on authority we put on each other
What is public and private sphere? Private sphere your thoughts—public
sphere where we come together and there is a clash of freedom, boundaries
between them are continually contested.
Secularism : it doesnt favor a particular religion, a government that does not
endorse a particular religion
1.France very secular, French people may be Catholic but the state is very
secular. Till 1905 Catholic church controlled education. it wants your private
sphere to be free from the state.
2.United States there was never a state church, very religious country,
religion is protected from the state
