Document Summary
More recently we have been more interested in global or world politics- that is, Ir is technically about interstate relationships, eg. diplomacy, trade international : domestic, transitional (relationships that span borders that do not span states) Taki(cid:374)g a (cid:862)puzzle(cid:863) or pro(cid:271)le(cid:373)-based approach: no studying something for its own sake. Gives you frameworks- not just one: competing assumptions, theories, and explanations, toolbox for your understanding of global phenomena. Generalized understandings and categories: e. g (cid:862)de(cid:448)elopi(cid:374)g (cid:272)ou(cid:374)tries(cid:863) a(cid:374)d (cid:374)ot (cid:862)ja(cid:373)ai(cid:272)a(cid:863) The internal politics of states- that"s (cid:272)o(cid:373)parati(cid:448)e politi(cid:272)s or ca(cid:374)adia(cid:374) politi(cid:272)s. Fragmentation and disagreement is what defines the study of ir. Supranational how relationships might occur among different regions or how organizations like the un are shaping things. Transnational groups (cid:449)hos (cid:271)ou(cid:374)daries (cid:373)ight spa(cid:374) (cid:271)orders (cid:271)ut are(cid:374)"t (cid:374)e(cid:272)essarily states, eg. (multinational corporations) Domestic (or subnational) one major way to think about it is in regard to gdp. Levels exist in relation to one another and are not sealed.
