We need to understand the world economy as one system and uncover the power relations within it: core/periphery (wallstein) The system is bult in a way that will always prevent the south from developing; the rules of the game is actively perpetuates a state of dependency. The south provides the raw materials the north needs; the north sell goods to southern markets. Any attempt to break free will lead to sanctions, military intervention coup. The north colludes with capitalist elites in the south and thus dependency becomes institutionalized in the domestic political and social systems of the southern countries. Solution: stop playing the game; break the rules.
