Document Summary

Individual outcomes in international politics are explained by individual choices and human action. Structure of domestic economic interests shape conflict and cooperation. Need new markets to sell to because domestic economy won"t buy the overproduction because of inequalities in economy and under- consumption. Explains the 100 years peace --> they were too busy conquering the world, then turned on each other when ran out of places to conquer. Imperialism existed before capitalism --> empires, not cause. Democracy don"t necessarily fight each other (babst 1972) Contested, inherent trade-offs in conceptualizing crucial trade- offs. Ideology and politics - everyone wants to be called democratic, but depends on what is important. Wars are rare anyways, yet still low probability for democracies. Something else creates relationship (ice cream and crime example) Control for other variables --> does still hold true. Democratic changes political values, implicitly trust democracies more than other regime types.
