Document Summary
Tunic intima (endothelium) - the very inside of the vessel where it faces the lumen. Tunic media (smooth muscle) - controlled by sympathetic ns to squeeze or relax. Tunic externa (fibrous connective tissue) - holds the vessel together. Tunics are separated by the elastic lamina, sitting between the layers. Veins and arteries different by fibrous tissues and amt of each tunic. There"s a drop in pressure in the arteries as it goes throughout the body. The anatomy of each vessel relates to its pressure. Arteries have a very thick smooth muscle amount to have strength for pressure. These arterioles are very muscular and are subject to powerful control on pressure. Sympathetic ns also involved to control pumping action. Idea that pressure drops as you move through bc of the resistance on blood in the vessels. This resistance creates drag to slow it down. Diastolic pressure is much higher than in the heart bc.
