Est that by 2025, china will have 200+m diabetics. 65 yo male, lives alone, diabetic for 25y. Presents in er with complaints of severe fatigue/weakness. Poor appetite, nausea, vomiting, swelling of feet/ankles, itching. Poor memory and confusion, difficulty sleeping, muscle twitches. Physical: edema and bp 180/110, pale, breath smells of urine. Pt has severe kidney failure with gfr < 15 ml/min (10-20% of regular) Severe fatigue and weakness: anemia due to reduced epo secretion from damaged kidney, leading to reduced o2 carrying capacity of blood.
