Document Summary

The gi system is the stomach and the intestines, and digestion system is from the mouth all the way down to the anus. When we ingest food, we enter digestion, we need motility to move it, theres absorption to absorb nutrients, and we want to secrete wastes. The digestive system is 4 different functions which are very highly regulated. Theres many accessory organs that are very important. The digestion tract is just one long tube. This is the o(cid:374)l(cid:455) s(cid:455)ste(cid:373) i(cid:374) the (cid:271)od(cid:455) that"s ope(cid:374) to the e(cid:454)te(cid:396)(cid:374)al e(cid:374)(cid:448)i(cid:396)o(cid:374)(cid:373)e(cid:374)t o(cid:374) (cid:271)oth e(cid:374)ds. The(cid:396)es a good interplay between the giigestion system and the immune system. The teeth are involved in mechanical digestion, they grind down the food and they increase the surface area that the enzymes can work on. The saliva is important for lubricating the food. The epiglottis blocks the airway so the food goes into the epiglottis instead of the lungs.
