Document Summary

Emotions feel mysterious to us but are understandable. Most important sub-processes are cognitive framing and physiological processes. Emotions are consequence of thinking in particular ways. Three implications: what you end up doing with your body and mind is the emotional experience you"ll have. Tend to judge people engaging in strong emotions when we"re in a cold state: many moments in our life are emotionally determined. Ex: best times, dumbest mistakes: you can learn to use your emotions more effectively. Communicate vast amount of info to people. We look for particular features in others to figure out how they"re feeling. We have micro-expressions, so even if someone is trying to portray themselves in a certain way, people can still figure it out. Ex: if lips are compressed its anger, if they are pulled back it"s fear. Contempt is twisted smile with upward gaze. Not great rest of the time: stress, immune suppression, lack of creativity.
