Exposed to society gains seem quite rapid at first, but quickly level off. Feedback they receive from the world- so negative- they shut down their interaction with the world. Positive view of self: parts of ourselves that we like- depends on how our actions are received. Private experience of self: tender feelings, vulnerability- expressed, cared for, deepens relationship, gratitude. Minimal group paradigm the minimal difference between groups that make one think they are better. Common ingroup identity model cooperating on superordinate goals- bring groups together, emphasize common goals & values. Peace is very fragile- anything that highlights otherness - consequences are substantially more feel empathy, connection, share vulnerabilities. Simple physiological comfort holds the foundation of support- when faced with challenges- they go to place of comfort for support. Even 10 week old infants get extremely upset when mothes stop showing any emotional feedback: completely freak out- what has happened to my only source of support.
