Anxiety disorders: 1 in 4 lifetime prevalence. Generalized anxiety disorder (gad): hypervigilance fatigue, irritability, headaches, etc. Specific phobias (e. g. bii-- blood, injury, injection) Bii: causes fainting cause of rapid drop in blood pressure. Inhibited temperamental style: infants are highly reactive to new stimuli. Frequent intrusive thoughts (obsessions) and/or compulsive actions to reduce anxiety from obsessions (compulsions), anticipate catastrophe and loss of control. Strong genetic component, early environmental stressors (head trauma, birth complications, strep infections) Overactivity in regions like orbitofrontal cortex, basal ganglia.
