Document Summary
Learning - a process by which behavior or knowledge changes as a result of experience. Classical conditioning - learning that occurs when a neutral stimulus elicits a response that was originally caused by another stimulus. Study the salivation of the dog - why they are salivating. Pair the neutral stimulus(no effect to the dog) with the unconditioned (natural) stimulus -> conditioned (learned) stimulus. Unconditioned response - unlearned reaction to an unconditioned stimulus. Conditioned response - learned reaction to the conditioned stimulus. Can occur in extremely simple organisms such as aplysia. > strong neural connections b/t groups of neurons in the temporal lobes of the brain. Acquisition - the initial phase of learning in which a response is established; acquiring new response; the phase in which a neutral stimulus is repeatedly paired with the us. Extinction - the loss or weakening of a conditioned response when a conditioned stimulus and unconditioned stimulus no longer occur together.
