Not only can us create our reality, we can influence reality itself so that it ends up confirming our creation. We can change our perception, and we can also change objective reality itself because we can change other people"s behavior through our own attention. e. g. , teacher expectations and children"s iq (rosenthal & jacobson; the pygmalion effect) 1st grade gain in iq = 27 vs. 12. Iq information that a person believes leads to their own expectations and then shapes the social reality they end up interacting with. Biases are influenced by our motivations, which can alter the information we pay attention to, the information we dredge up from out memories, and the meaning that we read into our experiences. E. g. , biases: we have an unequal approach to information. If you are hungry, you will be biased to pay more attention to food but not a pretty woman passing by.
