Document Summary
Ex: a green light emits photons that are detected by specialized neurons in the eyes, which transmit signals to the brain (sensation) the brain then processes those signals and the observer experiences a green light (perception) The world you live in is constructed by you. The sensory organ"s translations of stimuli"s physical properties into neural impulses is called sensory coding. Involves taking these external stimuli and converting it into a language that your brain can understand which is chemical or electrical signals. Most of this information (not smell) goes first to the thalamus, before being directed to a particular part of the cortex in the cortex is where the info is interpreted as sight, smell, taste etc. Psychophysics: a subfield developed by ernst weber and gustav fechner our psychological experiences about physical stimuli (how much physical energy is required for our sense organs to detect a stimulus)
