Document Summary

A set of mathematical procedures for organizing, summarizing and interpreting information. Sampe: a set of individual selected from population. Variable: characteristic that varies for different individuals. Note: if everyhgin has the same value, then it becomes a constant. Data: measurement or observation of a variable. Parameter: a numerical value that describes a population. Not feasible/possible to use the entire population. Construct: internal attribute; characteristics that cannot be measured or observed. Operationalization: ways to measure/ evaluate the construct. Discrete: separate indivisible groups, no value exist between neighboring categories. Continuous: infinite # of possible values between neighboring categories (precision cna change ) Orders don"t change the meaning of the questions. E. g. what is your hair color: ordinal. Distance between the two orders have no relation to the dif between the other two level: interval. Rank order, with defined intervals between the ordered events. E. g. temperature in c/f: 0 degree doesn"t mean that there is no temperature.
