PSY210H1 Lecture Notes - Lecture 5: Eyelid, Malnutrition, Palmar Grasp Reflex
Document Summary
Multilevel framework, from cells to society, for understanding developmental process. 1) central ns: consist of the brain and spinal cord. 2) peripheral ns: all parts of the ns that are outside the body skill and spinal column. 1) somatic nervous system: part of the ns that interacts with the environment: afferent: carry sensory signals from body to cns, efferent: carry motor signals from cns to body. 2) the autonomic ns: spans both central & peripheral ns. Cerebral hemispheres: the right and left halves of the brain. Gyrus: a ridged or raised portion of a convoluted brain surface. Sulcus: a furrow of a convoluted brain surface. Cerebral cortex: the outer covering of the cerebral hemispheres which consists largely of nerve cell bodies and their branches. White matter: under the cortex, largely myelinated axons. Gray matter: areas of brain that are mostly cell bodies. And have no myelin myelinated axons covering cell bodies and branchess white matter cortex.
