Some of these differentiating characteristics help the individual survive. Evolutionary personality theory: an area of study applying biological evolutionary theory to human personality. Extreme cases demonstrate that genetic factors can dramatically influence personality. Angelman syndrome: excessively happy, but have mental retardation. Williams syndrome: physical and developmental problems, but very social. Behavioural genetics tries to understand how individual differences in biology affect behaviour. Studies can analyze twins, or examine the products and correlates of a gene. Behavioural genomics: study of how genes affect behaviour. We can begin to examine how our genes function together with each other and environment to influence behaviour.
