Document Summary

James lange theory: your body works first and then your emotion act later. The study support this: they have you hold pencil in your mouth, your cheek is up a little bit, and your face is mimicking the smile. And then they ask people to rate the jokes, and they found that people who has the pencil in the mouth rate the jokes funnier than those who does not hold the pencil. The body and the conscious feeling are independent of each other. You can have one without have another, they are not as link tightly as those are. The evidence: the physiological feeling does not lead emotional feelings. If you hear rate increased, after jogging is different than when you are afraid of a bear in front of you. All of these experiences could have the similar body response for example increased heart rate, but the cause/emotional reaction is different. Cognitive appraisal: you are appraisal what is happening.
