PSY328H1 Lecture Notes - Lecture 9: Motivation, Reduced Affect Display, Relative Risk
Document Summary
An assessment approach based on the identification of factors shown to predict future violent behaviour: nature, severity or seriousness, frequency, imminence, likelihood or probability. Risk management: manage reintegration of individual upon release, provide stable and supportive environments. Risk assessments are completed using clinician"s best judgment without the assistance of standard tool or method. Weaknesses: accuracy of prediction is low. Early research may have underestimated accuracy: low inter-rater agreement. Risk factors and weights derived from sample(s) of offenders followed over a period of time: risk factors are selected based on their unique contribution to the prediction of recidivism. Weaknesses: questionable generalizability, application to individual is difficult, factors are primarily static, this could lead to more false positives, based on static risk factors c. Risk increase with time even if they haven"t reoffended during that time: steep slope at first, Violence risk appraisal guide (vrag; quinsey, harris, rice, & cormier, 2006) Assesses risk for general violent recidivism: actuarial tool derived from inmates.
