PSY493H1 Lecture Notes - Lecture 5: Outline Of Object Recognition, Tape Dispenser, Knowledge Representation And Reasoning
Document Summary
Field of object recognition is concerned with how we link what we know to what we"re experiencing now. How do we bridge a perceptual stimulus with the corresponding knowledge representation in the mind (i. e. , how does the percept of a coffee cup lead to the recognition of a coffee cup?) Take in information from our world from which we"ve gathered sensory information like pressure waves, etc. How do we link it to recognize a person"s voice or what we"re looking at: configuration theories. Argue that when we recognize an object, we recognize objects as whole. Highly detailed representation that must be matched perfectly for perception. Matching sensory information to an experience of the same object that looks the exact same. Argues that you have a memory of every object you"ve seen at every angle you"ve seen it. From any perspective, match it to one of the templates and match it.
