Document Summary
It is special type of behaviour that has a physiological consequences. It is learned it a different way from other behaviour. Copying - replicating what one observes another doing; or the performance of novel actions that lead to the observed outcome of a modeller"s actions. Modeling - the children"s imitative acts simply revealed what they had learned from watching someone demonstrate an action. Imitation - copying of motor actions from direct visual and oral input. Emulation - you are looking at the purpose of the action; copying that replicates an outcome without replicating specific motor. You modify behaviour based on what you see or what you hear, or even what you imagine. Perspective taking - imagining oneself in the place of another - a cognitive ability that is a prerequisite for the voluntary imitation of actions. Imagining an outside observer"s perspective to provide feedback that may help you perform such a feat. Contagion reacting similarly to emotions of conspecifics.
