- active passive model: patient wonʼt do anything, patient will be exposed to recommendations of doctor; patients donʼt have any contribution - cooperative participative model: both sides have collaboration and patients will do what doctor is saying - metacommunication: communication about communication - metacognition: thinking about what youʼre thinking about - important to see how communication takes - studies have shown when patient and doctor are anxious it has an impact on the patient - if doctor is anxious he/she will transfer anxiety to patient STRESS - preventable: thoughts - non-preventable stress techniques: acceptance, coping/adaptation - Techniques to Reduce Stress - mental preparation: provide person with tools to cope w/ stressful situation - get your muscle as tense as possible and after 20sec make them loose; when you do this 2x a day it allows you to understand how your mind is able to change tension into relaxation - sit back and move your hand clockwise and then do it counterclockwise, when you switch like this, you change tension to relaxation - visualization: close your eyes and sit as relaxed as possible - - things that happen to use are classified in 2 ways: - (1) our choices - (2) not your choices - things that arenʼt our choices but how we respond to those things demonstrate a series of our choices - realizing our proactive power shows us how mindful weʼve become of our choices - - 2 things to take into consideration: - (1) preparation (helps you as you prepare for your mind, it allows you to think about diff situation - (2) patience (demonstrate itsʼ power in the midst of challenges) - stress has a series of signs: behavioural (not tolerant, less control of yourselves) , cognitive (not able to concentrate, forget a lot of things) , emotional (easily disturbed/ perturbed), social organization (not able to deal w/ issues in an effective manner, poor organizational skills, donʼt go to classes/office, overwhelmed) - emotional awareness (you can see that thereʼs something that bothers you) is key to deal w/ emotional management - vigilance** - relationships defined in 2 parts: - interpersonal (when itʼs not working you have a lot anxiety/doubts/fears/ negativities) - intrapersonal (problems, canʼt deal w/ ppl in an amicable, canʼt adapt yourself, have difficulty communicating yourself to others) manner - - relationship w/ what you think about and what your body is doing - Summer Epstein: one day, I went to a mirror, and told my self “Iʼll back you up .. Iʼm good” .. felt different - your sense of self has an impact on lvl of stress, if your sense of self is not healthy it has an impact on what you do against your se;f - 3 views of
