Document Summary

A collection of narratives that span a large period of history. Stories pertaining to over 1500 years of history. The bible includes poetry, hymns, songs, legalist texts/tones and more. Generally, we divide the bible into 3 separate parts: torah refers to the first 5 books of the hebrew bible, neviim stories and information on prophets, kethuvim poetic literature and creative material. Tanakh: a synonym for the hebrew bible that works as an acronym for the first sounds of the first three sections (toneke) Narrow meaning: the first 5 books of the hebrew bible, the pentateuch (greek translation meaning 5 scrolls ) Broader meaning: all of the hebrew bible. Even broader meaning: all learning and knowledge within jewish tradition. Major source for the reconstruction of ancient jewish history and in its narrative it spans all the way back from the creation of the cosmos itself, to the last sections of the hebrew bible (written in 150-60bce)
