Muslim scholars in spain formed a lot of dialogue around intellectual issues, as it was a creative space. This grouping of different faiths and dialogue expanded into the renaissance. Muslim armies preferred that communities they conquered maintain their own religious practices, it made it easier to assert dominance. They just imposed administrative structure and gained money from taxes. There were higher taxes for jews and christians over the muslims. Watched a movie about the haj and what happens during it.
