Document Summary

Carrying capacity (k: largest population that can be sustained indefinitely, changes in response to environment, j-shaped curve -> s-shaped curve. When graph hitting carrying capacity the population is limited. Carrying capacity n o i t a l u p o. Time: populations are always changing, slightly above of below carrying capacity, too high ->crash. In 1940"s deers were send to an island for russian soldiers to use as resources (food ,etc), but they had enough resources so they didn"t kill the deers. The population of deers grew exponentially (because no predators and enough food), but when the population of deers reached 6000 the rate of increasing crash and by 1960"s there were only 42 deers. This happened because the deers were becoming ill (because of the new environment). The human population: 6 billion people in 1999, 7 billion & counting now.
