Climate scientists, like crime scene investigators, use technology to receive data; they create variables, such as land/ocean temperatures and greenhouse gas concentrations, and keep track of these variables. Climate scientists must also search for clues or proxy data that justify. Earth"s climatic conditions prior to when humans recorded them. Climate scientists examine weather over long periods of time rather than observe and predict weather (as meterologists do), and they look at patterns and find out about the interactions of the different elements of earth"s climate system. Purpose: to see lots of variables that are part of earth"s climate system like climate scientists do. Goal: to understand causes of climate change, the rate at which climate change happens, as well as how significant consequences are and whethey they are significant enough to change our lives. Helps to understand science vs. non-science, research methods used by scientists, how scientists collaborate, and why we are confident about scientists and scientific inquiry.
