What do monuments communicate: monuments let people perform and occasionally challenge memorial narratives, the meanings of monuments change over time, they teach us what and how to remember the past. Cultural diffusion is the process by which people in a society come to adopt a new practice, behavior, idea, or artifact. New ideas are always being diffused in a diverse population like our own. Very few people are up to date on all the new ideas and practices in our society. This means that a general concept like canadian culture is largely meaningless. Subcultures reflect differences in the rates of assimilating new ideas and practices. Are there cultural universals: yes, universal aspects of culture include: athletic sports, bodily adornment, cooking, dancing, language, however, different cultures satisfy these needs in different ways.
