Document Summary

Class: the origin of class originates from economics, the relationship to the means of production, and income. It is characterized by the conflict between class groups (e. g. bourgeoisie, proletariat, etc. : class struggle is characterized by the relationship between the means of production (the means are unequally distributed between groups) Characteristics: work marx"s conflict theory begins with an assumption that people want to work, private property (baseline differences) owners and workers have different relations to the means of production. *not all differences lead to inequality (inequality arises when something affects the quality of life, or the life chances/outcome for individuals) Complicating class: class is concerned with more than just economics. Intersectionality is a framework for understanding unique standpoints and life chances: where you are and who you are in the world, shapes our ability to see others for where they are, and who they are (changes our perception)
