Definitions: macro, regards the whole system (the whole general population / affects everyone, meso, organizations & institutions, micro, face-to-face interactions. Focuses on large, macro-level structures, such as relations between or among classes. Members of privileged groups try to maintain their advantages while subordinate groups struggle to increase theory. To resolve conflict, one must decrease privilege and reduce the difference amongst the classes. Bourgeoisie were the factory owners in the industrial world and the proletariat were the workers. There is class conflict because the bourgeoisie are exploiting and dominating the proletariat and thus the difference between the classes cannot be reduced, resulting in a huge distinction between the classes. Political economy (economic relations is the base) The conflict theory regards the whole system (broad structure that can be generalized to the population. Connecting personal problems to structural problems: argued that power is highly concentrated in american society, which is therefore less of a democracy than we are led to believe.
