Gender is created and re-created out of human interaion. Takes a disrupion of our expectaions of how men and women are supposed to act to pay atenion to how it is produced. Sex category gender status through gender markers (ex. naming, dress) As a social insituion: gender = process of creaing disinguishable social statuses for the assignment of rights and responsibiliies. Social structure: gender = major building-block in social structures built on these inqualiies. Says if you want to think sociologically about gender, you need to think in 3 ways: as a process/context noion that gender is something that is done in the course of interacion (doing gender) Gender creates social diferences that deine woman and man .
