Document Summary

Jean baudrillard has nothing to say about ethnic and racial groups in his analysis of the consumer society: pseudo- scientific racism: Scientific racism is the belief that empirical evidence proves the superiority of some races over others. Historically, scientific racist ideas were believed in the scientific community. Even supported eugenic practices of selective breeding and extermination. However, they are no longer considered scientific. Tended to view indians, and americans as primitive, limited knowledge, didn"t live the same way, weren"t industrious like europeans. Was a long period where people were making scientific theories about racial groups, so much so that they supported eugenic programs. American aimed to improve human species by selectively breeding the best elements. Eugenic movement were discredited around middle of 20th century: science in the service of racism: Scientific racism was common from the 1600s to the end of ww2. Since then, scientific racism has been criticized as obsolete and discredited.
