Sex is not something just innate, something we instinctively know; it is something we learn about as we grow into adulthood. It has a strong cultural context sex is fundamentally a social enterprise. What is sex, what is normal, when and with whom, how long, under what conditions, and for what purpose are learned from various agents of socialization. Gay" emerged in 1940-50s to refer to both men and women. Gay women claimed lesbian" as their identification during 1960-70s.
