Gender and age: the universal bases of social differentiation. You would still have someone bringing in money, just in this case it would be the wife/mother. How a female/ male is supposed to behave. Nurses tend to be women, engineers tend to be men. Men invest themselves in highly paying jobs, whereas nursing doesn"t pay very well. In high school, females are discouraged by media and society to stray from science and math- not being encouraged to explore those areas of study. When females go into guy territory they are threatened and mistreated, harassed, abused emotionally, used as sex objects reluctance of women to explore in these jobs, schooling, etc. Gender differences remain in the major education choices that men and women make- At the undergrad level, these diff. are half as large as they were before 1970. Women are overrepresented in lower paying jobs that involve service, care work, counselling, anc emotion work.
