-structural functionalist: provide framework for reproduction and sex
-Talcott Parsons: nuclear, heterosexual family is optimal for society

-Conflict Theory: modes of production
-Feminist: determine women’s hidden experiences
-Gendered division of labour leads to a potential source of conflict
-Symbolic interactionist: focuses on micro-llevel
