Bruno was sentenced by the inquisition and burnt at the stake in 1600 due to the theological implications of his work. Notably, he rejected the divinity of christ and instead believed that. Bruno wasn"t executed for his cosmology, but instead for his theological errors that others, like nicholas of cusa, were careful to avoid. Bruno imported most of his cosmology directly from cusa. Bruno asserted that the earth isn"t the center of the universe, and that it revolves around the sun (following directly on the heels of copernicus) Bruno also charged that aristotle held philosophy imprisoned for centuries due to his bounded cosmos and adhered more to the pre-socratic thinkers. Bruno also asserts that the universe is infinite in size (no restrictions, unlike cusa) and the worlds within the universe are innumerable that move in a void. Other worlds also contain similar inhabitants, according to bruno.
