Class discussion: equity at the forefront, oppression, intersectionality, solidarity for all women, politically motivated, equality. Common definition: feminism is about equality among the sexes treating women equally to men. The idea that only women can be a feminist is based on essentialism- the assumption that men and women possess inherent behavioural traits based on biological sex. Another woman said feminism is a western project: eurocentrism: practise of viewing the world from europium perspective, assumption that women have common experiences, local issues/forms of organization, assumed the movement is only in the west. State repression: physical sanctions against an individual or organization, within the territory of the state, for the purpose of deterring activities and/or beliefs perceived to be challenging to the government.
