Hierarchy of relative prepotency/ predominance - when basic needs satisfied, higher needs emerge. Basic need - physiological food, water, sleep, sex. Higher need - safety, love, esteem, self-actualization. Cash economy - afford to eat, rather than subsistence production to meet your own needs. First world countries that extract resources seen as barbaric, but are needed to fuel the cash economy. Developed countries are able to have time to self-actualize/ individualism - a capitalist view, rather than the rights of all people. More economically profitable to satisfy higher needs (military protection, love gifts, self improvement services) Poor people have sex & have too many kids, wealthy people make love. Vol 30 - settler society doesn"t recognize sacred connection bw women/ water/ life, concerns of water abuses. Women"s work - washing cooking, household chores had to do with water. Water as life, health, well-being, ecological commons, basic need. Water as woman"s need - modern day hewers of wood & drawers of water?)
